Glunnator

Obsidian does his bulky, large-handed best to mimic the elf's example. The cup is taken daintly between two fingers, lifted to the lips, and promptly shatters to pieces, raining precious tea over feet and carpet.
The troll looks hurt, surprised, and confused for a moment, then remembers himself and gives the floor a light stomp, rattling the shelves and powderising some of the shards.
With two shards still in hand, still held high, he turns to the elf, Obsidian's face nervously switching back and forth from a sheepish grin to deep dread.

Mesmeratio

"Large enough I hope" the wizard mumbles. "So I take it Fabrice will not be joining us? No matter, can I ask a favour of you?" The wizard fondles for a key in one of his pockets. "Take this key, it leads to the dungeons below" The wizard hands Nachr the key but stops to think for a moment. "I seem to have misplaced the thought containing whatever you had to do. No matter, I-"

At that moment the doors to the mage tower open once more, and another old man steps inside. He has yellow eyes, a crooked nose, a long and very very fuzzy beard split into three points and long grey hair. His eyebrows are remarkably long and fuzzy, with spots of black in them. He is wearing gardener's clothes, a straw hat, a pitchfork and is smoking a pipe. "Rats lad, we're looking at large rats, and some weeds."

There's a knock on Bestaba's door. A high-pitched boy voice is heard from the other side. "Uh.. uh.. Mr Bestaba? We just got message from the temple that your representative has left for the tower. He should be there in.. (his voice pitches really high now) well about now I think."

The forest towards the witch grows denser and darker. A little further away you can see a hare running towards the witch's hut direction, but suddenly stopping in it's tracks, and slowly walking the opposite direction instead. You get the feeling that magic's at play here, and that the witch's hut cannot be much farther away.

Greensleeves snorts behind her book and even lets out an audible laugh. Walkure seems confused for a moment, looks at the other elf and chuckles too. "Right, would you like a rock snack instead? I believe you rock trolls have a rather odd reaction to certain magical rocks, and we just happen to have a nice amethyst lying around here somewhere." He ponders for a moment. "I think it's in the lab, shall I get it?"

Glunnator

Whilst still a bit confused and upset, Obsidian brightens up considerably.
"Amethyst! Yes, yes, amethyst is friend!" he says.
Having learned a few odd habits from the organic creatures near his home-cave, the troll licks his lips with an unsettlingly loud scraping sound.

Daemon

Talon stops and signals to Skraw to keep back. He points his quarterstaff out in front of him to check for any invisible barriers. Keeping his staff in position, he slowly moves forward.

Mesmeratio

Bestaba is shaken out of his wonderings about the solution. "I thought they were coming here" he mumbles. "Will be out in short!'' He says to Fabrice

"R-right sir, no need for haste, do you re-require my services?"

"Errr, I will tell you when I do" Says Bestaba as he exits the bath

"Right s-s-sir I di-di-din't mean to.."

"Actually, I might need you in a moment"

"I'll just w-w-wait outside until you n-need me"

Bestaba dry off and puts on his clothes "Could you come in and help me dress please?"

Fabrice enters the door "R-r-r-right sir"

After getting dressed up, Bestaba thanks Fabrice and goes down to the main room after locking the door. He takes his staff and his bag and thanks the owner for the bath. "I will be back soon to prepare the show"

The innkeeper nods.

Bestaba exits and heads back to the gates of the guild. It is dark outside, but the breeze is warm. The templars nod at his arrival.

"Is the observer here yet my dear gentlemen?"

"I think he just arrived, I'm not sure if it was him" the right templar answers. "It was him, for some reason he always gets the important stuff". The left templar remarks.

"Thank you very much" Bestaba gives the right templar a silver.

The right templar seems quite happy, although his face is obscured. "Thank you sir!". The left templar keeps silent.

Bestaba enters and heads to the middle tower.

Windy

"Rats? What's wrong with a few rats?" Nachr says, sounding slightly annoyed.

"I'm rather thirsty, can I try some of your punch, Gerald? Assuming it doesn't have odd magical ingredients in it..." The centaur seems to ignore the odd gardener, his eyes following the pitchfork with disdain.

Mesmeratio

The invisible magic barrier flickers as you touch it. You can see the forest ahead as if through a curtain of invisible silk.

"Right away then!" And Walkure walks out of the library, leaving obsidian with Greensleeves, reading.

"Punch? Well 'tis not ready but you can try. Also, it depends on what your definition of odd is." And he walks back towards the lab again. The gardener walks after Tourdion and Nachr "Look lad, these ain't no normal rats, these critters are monstrous. They gnaw at this majestic and beautiful plant, and leave their filth everywhere. We ought to put a stop to them."

Walkure comes walking in, and turns to Tourdion "Sir, where did we leave the magical amethyst? I figured a perfect snack for the rock troll." A smile creeps over Walkure's face. The gardener stares at the elf intensely.

Windy

Nachr groans audibly as he follows the arch mage. Rats?! he thinks, it's absurd how these humans can be afraid of such small creatures.

The centaur brightens up as he notices the young elf walking enters the room. A familiar creature at last! thinks Nachr as he turns to greet the elf.

"I'm Nachr, a travelling centaur mercenary. What do you mean, rock troll?"

Glunnator

Obsidian doesn't appear to move very much, but seems to be staring intently at the books as if to figure out what on in the world they are.
Not surprisingly, that is exactly what he is doing.

Daemon

Talon cautiously reaches out with his hand to touch the barrier.

Mesmeratio

The elf turns to Nachr "Ahh, good day sir, my name is Friedrich." He make a slight bow. "As for the rock troll, I just invited one over for tea and crumpets, but it seems rock trolls do no take a liking to tea."

Tourdion looks at the gardener for a second "The amethyst? It should be in one of the labs." He walks towards the lab "Anyway, Mr. Nachr, if you're interested in the job? I'm sure we can make an arrangement over some punch."

Friedrich nods and walks towards the same lab as Tourdion.

The gardener stays at the entrance.

"Do you like rocks?" Miss Greensleeves asks Obsidian, her voice suddenly quite friendly.

The barrier reacts to your touch like a silk curtain would, wavering where you touched it. You feel a very minor sensation in your hand but cannot place it. It doesn't seem to keep you out.

Windy

"Nice to meet you, Friedrich." says Nachr as he bows slightly in response.

To Tourdion, he says, "I'm more interested in this rock troll. Seldom do they make themselves known, and when they do it does not tend to be for reasons of good will."

Glancing back towards the gardener Nachr continues saying, "Rats do not interest me." then trotting towards the arch mage and elf, he says "but punch does. I really do need a drink of something or other!"

Daemon

Talon, not knowing exactly how the barrier works, brushes his hand to the side and steps through. He turns and signals for Skraw to follow before continuing on his path into the darkness.

Mesmeratio

There's a moment of slight discomfort as you pass it, but you get through just fine. On the other side of the barrier, the forest seems different than before you went through the barrier. The plants and trees all have something odd about them. The shapes are unnatural and the colours are weird. Some trees even have the likeness of eyes in their bark. You get the idea you stepped through a wall of illusions.

Glunnator

Obsidian stared at the elf for a moment, his face a picture of amazement.
Then he bashfully looks down at the floor, and looking a little uncomfortable, asks "I... Haaah, what you mean, exactly?"

Daemon

"Witch's tricks," Talon mutters. Skraw screeches and flies towards Talon. Talon catches the hawk and wraps him in his cloak, safe from the illusions. Keeping his eyes trained on the ground, Talon continues trudging onward.

Mish

As Bestaba reaches the front door it opens for him. "So you do like me Plant" Bestaba mumbles at the purple plant. He enters the porch and is surprised to see the archmage, Nachr and the elf accompanied by some other man. "Are you the supervisor asighned by the church to look after my use of magic in town?" he asks the other guy.

Mesmeratio

"As for the rock troll, he is our guest until further notice" Tourdion answers stern. "As for the rats, this is the only work I have at the moment, and it pays. And you'll find out why." He steps into the lab, grabs a mug, and scoops up some punch, handing it to Nachr. "Now, are you interested or not?" he asks, with bright eyes fixed on Nachr.

Walkure searches the shelves of the lab, and after a minute or so finds a large amethyst between some books.

The gardener turns to Bestaba as he enters. "Ah hello, you must be Bestaba. I'm Theodorus, very pleased to meet you!" He shuffles closer, raising one hand next to his mouth as if to whisper something to Bestaba "They wanted to send some old fart from the church, but I put a stop to that silly line of thought."

"Rocks, stones and stuff, you're a rock troll, I bet you like them?" She smiles at obsidian and points towards the tome "See, I like books".

You're not sure if walking through that barrier created the illusion, or if the wall was the illusion. Even if there's sunlight above the clouds, it is not visible anymore. The trees form a dense roof over your head. The forest gets denser and weirder, and you can see large purple plants sprouting from everywhere. You have a vague idea the markings and plants and so forth form a pattern, which would be worthwhile to uncover, as you don't have any idea how to get to the witch otherwise. [You will have to search for clues to press on without ending in a swamp]

Mish

"Oh this is splendid! I realy didn't want to end up with a supervisor that is not a worthwhile conversasion mate. Shall we walk back to the Silly Schew? I am performing a magic show tonight and I suppose are comitted to look after it." says Bestaba to Theodorus. Bestaba do not know yet he is the gardener.

Glunnator

As Greensleeves mentions 'Rocks, stones and stuff', Obsidian twists a little uncomfortably, wearing a sheepish schoolboy grin. Were it possible for rock trolls to blush, he'd be doing so now.
"See, I like books"
At this, Obsidian pauses. Then he thinks. Then he bursts out laughing a loud, rasping troll laugh.
He makes himself comfortable on the floor.
"Ah, is dat what you meant." Obsidian's grin seems not far from sagely at this point. "Rocks is friend. Some is tasty, good food. Others is people. I know lots about rocks."
He turns his head to one side before he asks "What is books like?"
