Good day.

I've discussed this topic with other users before and I can't help but feel I should make a more gerenal statement about it. It's been a big topic at other MC forums as well, so I'm not the first one that's thought of it, and certainly not the last. So, here it goes:

Some items added by the EE mod in Tekkit are awfully overpowered, taking away all the challenge in the game that should've become more interesting with the items added by IC and Redpower and whatnot, chasing away all the players that started out with dreams of building an automated industrial city-state, and leaving the Tekkit server empty.

To be more specific: Energy collectors, relays and quite possibly flying rings break an otherwise very interesting server. The amount of resources gathered by a simple collector power-flower is not only astounding, but it is also exponential (which is what makes it OP in comparison to other collectors). There is simply no need whatsoever to make any other machine Tekkit offers: a power flower simply does better in every case.

My proposal is to disable collectors and relays, and possibly swiftwolf's rending gale if not other EE items. I've heard from multiple users they'd consider playing it again if this where to be the case.

tl;dr
Energy collectors are OP, disable them.

Discuss.

I already brought up this point when I was playing Tekkit but I don't think anyone was listening XD.

Anyway, I agree that collectors and relays should be banned which will encourage people to use other mods and work together to pool resources (it won't be viable for everyone to have everything anymore unless they work together or put a lot of time in to going solo).

But I don't see why the rest of EE should be banned. It belongs in Tekkit just as much as any other mod. Condensers allow people to swap resources but not gain them without a power flower so, in my eyes that's fine. Rending Gale is an alternative to the jetpack.

Hmm I understand and perhaps agree with most (though I haven't played enough Tekkit), but why are flying rings problematic? I think they might be a good reward for someone who has spent so much time working towards it.

They seemed alright in those Yogscast videos. (Not the best source, I know...)

They make travel and building high structures all too easy and boring - whilst the trek and using scaffolding can be quite entertaining!

What Glun and Deamon said exactly. I agree that a lot of EE could/should stay, the condenser is a balanced machine when you take away the collector, and some of the other items are unique and wonderful. I do think the flying rings are quite powerful, but when you consider the cost of making the ring and flying itself (almost 60+ diamonds for the ring itself, and at least a redstone per 2 - 3 seconds for flying), the scaffolding is a cheap alternative.

Well, I'm not a Tekkit regular so my opinion doesn't really count.

When/if a decision is made among the Tekkitites, I'll apply the changes ASAP!

'The tekkitites' currently consist of: Mesmeratio.
He is the single-most active Minelordian on Tekkit.
This suggestion was made to try and lure more people into Tekkit.

    So yeah =p

I only left tekkit because of this problem. No-one was working together like we initially planned to do and I specialised in EE and found myself useless to the team because everyone had a power flower of their own.

I agree with what the majority agrees with.

If it comes to a draw flip a coin in my name.

When we're at the topic of the amount of current players anyway, we (me and my chickens) really feel the Tekkit-server could use some more acknowledgement anyway. For example: put it on the list of servers, maps, make it an official part of the minelord active-players-count.

Glun was right when he observed this stunt is mainly because of the lack of players, and the hope of luring more players to trap into my teslacoil-cells help build something positively awesome.

I've already made progress towards this by getting @Windlord to put the Tekkit dynmap in the maps list.
    trap into my teslacoil-cells
The 'getting rid of power flowers' idea would mean starting a new world, so no tesla coils for you :P (at least not straight away :-S )

Hmm the Tekkit server was a temporary solution for a bored @Daemon and @Glunnator.
It was mainly because I wasn't sure how our server would handle a Tekkit server, and a Bukkit server.
So in that sense it's a second class citizen, for now.

If it's to be more 'official', we'll need to setup a few permissions and start backing things up.
We could also use a combined whitelist, instead of a separate one.

If there are enough votes, I'll do that!

    Capital! I'll vote for that!

EDIT: As I have been reminded, that would best be on the condition that Mesmer's Castle and Lumi's mansion and garden get copied and transferred to the new world - they're too magnificent of artworks to lose.
The EE things can easily be filtered out, I'm sure.
    ...please say yes.

I'd be interested in learning Tekkit- I've never played that mod before.

We don't have to restart the world imo... but then that's up to the Tekkit people to decide.

What's the point of getting rid of power flowers if we already have everything a power flower could give us?
